Purple Hat, Cheetah Print, Dancing On The People

In case you haven’t been able to tell, I’m a pretty big Sofi Tukker fan, which is why it is no surprise that I’m pretty excited about their upcoming EP Dancing On The People. This week in new music, Sofi Tukker released their fourth single from the EP titled “Purple Hat.”

The track starts of with their signature Bossa Nova influenced acoustics, which almost immediately abruptly transitions into Tucker’s electronic voice, “Purple hat, cheetah print, dancing on the people.” The electronic beat kicks in, and the tongue twisted lyrics keep spewing. Then Sophie comes in with her guitar riffs and soothing voice balancing out Tucker’s eccentricity on the chorus.

The song itself was born one night out of inspiration from Tucker’s fashion sense, after their first Animal Talk collective party, where he was wearing a purple hat with a cheetah print shirt and literally climbing on top of a sold out crowd. Each of their sets since has had a similar environment, and the group wanted to capture that energy into a song for this release.

The duo are about to embark on their R.I.P. Shame World Tour in promotion of Dancing On The People this fall with Australian indie pop group Haiku Hands. The tour kicks off October 2nd in Calgary, AB and will travel North America and Europe.
