Halsey has officially announced the title to her third full length album, Manic. The album won’t be released until January 17, 2020. However, last week she released the latest single to the album ”Graveyard,” which features a time lapse video of the singer painting the cover art for her upcoming album.
The album will feature 16 tracks, including previous single “Without Me,” which was her first number-one song on the Hot 100 as a lead artist. Missing from the album is her last single, “Nightmare.” Halsey was previously advised not release “Nightmare” as a single due to its sociopolitical content. However, the artist insisted with releasing music due to the fact that it wasn’t safe in pushing the boundaries. The song was well received with positive reviews amongst critics, and released a video that featured Debbie Harry from Blondie focusing on female empowerment. Ultimately, Halsey felt the track would not fit in with the rest of of the direction and content of Manic and chose to leave it out of the album.
Halsey has stated that this is her first album she has written as her true self, Ashley, as opposed to writing under the persona created as Halsey (an anagram for her given name). She’s taking a dark, yet organic approach to the sound of the album, as can be seen with the acoustic sounds of “Graveyard.” She’s collaborated with producer Louis Bell, who is known for having worked with Post Malone, along with the Monsters and the Strangerz, who have produced previous tracks for Fifth Harmony, Nick Jonas, Bebe Rexha, And Miley Cyrus.
We’re excited to see the direction that Manic takes Halsey. Check out the lyric video for “Graveyard” below!
